RHI offers comprehensive outpatient services that support and expand the core programs offered in our inpatient setting. We provide a seamless continuum of care from our acute inpatient rehabilitative care through our comprehensive outpatient services. Our programs are structured to provide our patients and families with the resources and therapy needed to reach their goals.
Our comprehensive outpatient services specialize in evidence-based treatment regimens, offering individualized treatment to meet each patient’s goals. Our focus on evidence-based therapy translates into quality and meaningful outcomes for our patients. Our knowledgeable and compassionate clinicians bring a wide range of experience and expertise to our practice and enhance our ability to provide rehabilitative care to individuals with a wide variety of needs.
Physical Therapy (PT)
Our Physical Therapists address issues related to strength, coordination, endurance,
range of motion, mobility, and balance. A PT session might target:
- Improved walking, with or without equipment such as a cane or walker
- Issues with balance or dizziness
- Exercises for strengthening muscles and joints
- Working on transfers, such as from a wheelchair to the car
- Functional mobility such as walking up stairs or over curbs
- Identification of needs for home modification and equipment
- Improve range of motion in joints, reducing stiffness
- Reduce pain
- Improve balance and coordination
- Improve independence in the home and community with activities such as
cooking, housekeeping, shopping, and going out - Amputee pre-prosthetic/prosthetic training
- Post-joint replacement therapies
Occupational Therapy (OT)
Our Occupational Therapists focus on maximizing independence in daily living skills
such as:
- Self-care like dressing and grooming
- Home management tasks like cleaning, cooking, care of children, financial
management - Work-related skills
- Leisure time and hobbies
- Visual, thinking and planning skills
- Identification of needs for home modification and equipment
- Use of adaptive equipment if necessary
- Improve range of motion in joints, reducing stiffness
- Reduce pain
- Improve balance and coordination
- Improve independence in the home and community with activities such as
cooking, housekeeping, shopping, and going out. - Amputee pre-prosthetic/prosthetic training
- Post-joint replacement therapies
Speech Therapy (ST) / Speech-Language Pathology (SLP)
Our Speech Therapists work to improve cognition and communication in the home and
community. Specific areas of focus may include:
- Language difficulty, or aphasia, which can impact the ability to speak, understand information, read, and/or write
- Speech production and clarity due to apraxia or dysarthria
- Voice production
- Cognitive-communication, or difficulty with thinking skills such as memory,
attention, problem-solving, orientation, awareness, planning, organizing, and time management - Improving social communication skills including emotion recognition training
- Dysphagia or difficulty swallowing
Neuropsychology Evaluations and Therapy
Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana's (RHI) internationally recognized neuropsychologists lead the field in providing evidence-based services for individuals with brain injury. We offer:
- Neuropsychological assessment
- Individual and group psychotherapy and cognitive rehabilitation
- Specialized neurorehabilitation Day Treatment Program
- Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS)

Physiatry Services
Our General Physiatry Clinic offers physiatry services designed to support the delivery of individualized programs of care for patients suffering from back pain and musculoskeletal conditions. The goal is to address issues up-front so that patients can fully participate in their recovery and be themselves again.
