IU Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Research Conducted at RHI Earns Top 10 Ranking
INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana University Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation researchers at Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana received over $988,000 in total funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) during fiscal year 2023.
According to rankings recently released by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR), this lands IU PM&R conducted at Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana at No. 10 in NIH funding among all public medical schools in the country and No. 18 among all schools nationally.
Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research is a nonprofit organization that ranks institutions, departments, and investigators by the funding they receive from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) each federal fiscal year. The NIH is the is the world’s largest public funder of biomedical research in the world, and the 2023 federal fiscal year was October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023.
Grants distributed from NIH funded two Locomotor Recovery post-stroke studies: Variable Intensive Early Walking Poststroke (Views), and Locomotor Recovery and Compensation Post-stroke. Both aimed at examining post-stroke recovery using high-intensity training (HIT) and its efficiency over conventional interventions.
